Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions

  • Topping, which involves cutting a tree back to stubs, is widely considered harmful and is not a practice we use. Crown reduction removes branches back to suitable growth points, maintaining the tree's natural shape and long-term health. The result looks far better and does not stress the tree.

  • It depends on the species. Many trees are best pruned in late winter before spring growth, but some such as pohutukawa are better pruned after flowering. Our arborists will advise on the right timing for your tree during the assessment.

  • Correct pruning by a qualified arborist improves tree health. We follow best-practice cutting techniques to minimise stress and help the tree recover and thrive after work is completed.

  • Minor pruning typically does not require consent, but significant work on protected trees under the Auckland Unitary Plan may. We will flag this during your assessment and guide you through any consent requirements if needed.

  • Yes, this is a core part of what we do. Using modern climbing techniques and rigging systems, we safely access trees in confined urban sections, over buildings and in restricted sites where machinery cannot reach.
